We have the good news coming here from the Business Standard today that Yamaha India had realised its mistake of launching the Ray Z which is basically Ray scooter with some cosmetic changes to appeal to male buyers. However, the Yamaha Ray Z hasn’t affected the sales of the market leader, the Honda Activa as Yamaha calculated.
Now the company has realised the mistake and will launch an all-new scooter for men which will directly compete with the country’s best selling scooter- the Honda Activa. The upcoming scooter is most likely to be unveiled at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo. Nothing much is known about this upcoming scooter at the moment.
Undoubtedly, the new scooter from Yamaha is likely to sit above the Ray range in terms of price and positioning. There rumors of Yamaha introducing an all-new 125cc mill on this new scooter to cop-up with the competition, although not confirmed. Also there are unconfirmed rumors of Honda launching an all-new 125cc automatic scooter by end-November or early-December.
Apart from Honda Active its competitors include the Suzuki Access, Suzuki Swish, TVS Wego, TVS Jupiter, Honda Aviator, Mahindra Rodeo and Mahindra Duro. Yamaha India is currently targeting to increase its share in the emerging automatic scooter segment in India.
