Yamaha Motor India Pvt. Ltd. has decided to focus only on bringing in new scooters to our rapidly developing two wheeler market. Speaking to Financial Chronicle, India Yamaha Motor managing director and chief executive officer Hiroyuki Suzuki said the company will launch a sporty-stylish 125cc automatic scooter targeted at young men in 2013.
Surprisingly, the company has also stated that it will keep updating its existing models. And it will launch a scooter series with products for different target profiles. Sources suggest that Yamaha India will position its upcoming automatic scooter against the very popular Honda Aviator. This upcoming 125cc scooter is said to be priced between Rs 40,000 and Rs 50,000.
The 125cc man-sized automatic scooter from Yamaha will be powered by a single cylinder 125cc four stroke motor mated to a CVT transmission. Like the Aviator, the Yamaha 125cc automatic scooter will sport telescopic forks up front. Details are scare about the upcoming Yamaha, but safely expect class leading power figures and a digital instrument console.
Till 2015, Yamaha plans to periodically facelift its existing motorcycle range, so don’t expect a 250 cc bike from Yamaha anytime soon. On the otherhand, the company announced that after 2015, the brand will launch a mass market motorcycle, which in other words, could be an offering targeting the commuter segment in the 125 cc category. It is speculated to be priced in the range of Rs 40,000-Rs 50,000.
