Japanese auto giant, Toyota has launched the Kijang Innova facelift in Indonesia, calling it the new Innova. In India, the Innova was introduced in 2003 as a replacement for the old-school Toyota Qualis. The Innova received an upgrade in 2009 and after that in 2011 and these were not just cosmetic changes but also new features adding to the luxury of the SUV were introduced.
Now the increasing competition from new entrants has made the company launch yet another facelift with some changes to both interior as well as the exterior. Although Toyota had today launched the facelift version of innova in Indonesian market, expect this to make way to India sometime in 2014. Toyota has naturally hiked the prices of the new Innova compared to the outgoing variant (now ABS and dual front airbags are standard across the Innova line-up).
The Innova Facelift comes with some styling tweaks at both front and rear ends, making it look more dynamic and aggressive. There’s a massive Hilux-inspired grille up front, with a reworked rear-end gets some chrome trimmings along with a modified bumper. However, the lower end variants of the vehicle didn’t get these changes. The lower end ‘J’ variant of the Innova sports a new wheel caps and dual airbags, which are missing earlier.
Mechanically it’s the same as before with a 2.0-litre petrol and 2.5-litre diesel engines. While the 2.0-litre petrol mill is capable of developing 136bhp and 183Nm of top torque, the 2.5-litre diesel engine churns out 102bhp and 200Nm of torque. The petrol engine is available with two transmission options – manual and automatic, while the diesel comes with a manual gearbox only. Surprisingly these engines are only Euro-2 compliant.
In Indonesia, the Innova is launched in 18 petrol and diesel variants and is priced in the range of Rs. 11.8 lakhs to Rs. 18.99 lakh. Even with MPVs showering in the Indian market, Toyota Innova holds the crown of the best MPV, one more facelift will undoubtedly strengthen its roots more strongly in Indian car market.
