The 2012 Mitsubishi Mirage subcompact is making its public debut today at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show and will be going on sale in Thailand this March. Following that the new subcompact from Mitsubishi will be sold globally in emerging and developing market – and we’re guessing that means the India as well.
An honest opinion on the Mitsubishi Mirage would be – a budget car without nothing much to boast about where looks are concerned. It is an 5-door hatchback that the company says can ‘easily’ accommodate 5 adults – we’re guessing 5 short adults. However, a car with reasonable fuel economy and a decent price tag are all required to sell the car in huge volumes for especially a country like India.
The fuel efficiency is another factor and with 20 kmpl mileage for a petrol engine is not too bad. As for the engine department, the Mitsubishi Mirage intended for the Japanese car market comes with a humble 1.0 L petrol engine under the hood. However, a slightly powerful 1.2 L petrol engine is also next on the cards.
A Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT) gearbox makes the engine more efficient with the impressive fuel economy numbers. Now if Mitsubishi Mirage makes it to Indian shores, the key selling point will be mileage figures. Next in the line will be the low maintenance cost that can be expected from Mirage hatchback. However, an icing on the cake will be the CNG and LPG variants. However, Mitsubishi India has not made any revelations regarding the Mirage launch in India.
