As the reports on the Economic Times, Maruti Suzuki’s MD & CEO, Mr. Kenichi Ayukawa has confirmed that the auto maker is working on a next-generation Maruti Alto. He did not mention further details on the upcoming model, but media reports state that the next-gen Alto will feature an evolutionary yet distinctive redesign.

Currently, the sales of India’s no.1 passenger car have slowed down due to two main reasons. Firstly, now the first-time car buyers are choosing a premium hatchback owing to the added features and practicality. Secondly, the value-for-money Renault Kwid has become a nightmare for the Alto, with higher space, more features & a very tasty design.

Back to the story at hand, the sources claim that the next-gen Alto will be structurally more strong, so as to pass the proposed Bharat New Car Assessment Program (Indian crash test norms).
