Ford Fiesta Classic price slashed again, now priced at Rs. 4.88 lakh

In a span of less than 5 months, Ford India has again slashed the price of its Fiesta Classic sedan by 10k to lure more buyers. The revised starting price of Ford Fiesta Classic petrol variant is Rs. 4.88 lakh (ex-showroom price in New Delhi). Earlier this-year in January-2014, the company had reduced its price from Rs. 5.64 lakh to Rs. 4.99 lakh, a reduction of about 65K.

In July-2012, the company has renamed Ford Fiesta Classic as ‘Ford Classic’. The company has priced the Ford Classic less, and they will be selling Ford Classic and new Fiesta simultaneously. Under the bonnet remains intact with 1.6-litre Duratec Petrol engine and 1.4-litre Diesel Duratorq Diesel power train. With these prices it comes into head-to-head with Honda Amaze, Maruti Dzire and recently launch Hyundai Xcent.

Audi opens world-class showroom in Udaipur

Audi, the German luxury car manufacturer recently opened Audi Udaipur, its second showroom in Rajasthan after Jaipur. The entire Audi India model range will be available for sale in this new showroom. This world-class showroom was inaugurated by Mr. Joe King, Head, Audi India and Mr. Aditya Kasliwal, Managing Director, Audi Udaipur and Audi Jaipur (Kamal Autotech Pvt. Ltd.).

German luxury car manufacturer, Audi just last-month inaugurated Audi Visakhapatnam, its second showroom in Andhra Pradesh after Hyderabad. The entire Audi India model range will be available for sale in this new showroom. This facility would be spread over an area of 10,000 square feet and will have a capacity to service 12 cars per day in a single shift on a total of 6 bays along with body shop and paint shop. Till the full-fledged workshop comes up, the servicing of cars will be done at an interim workshop with 3 bays. The technicians at the facility are trained to ensure world-class services to the customers.

Audi India plans to expand its network to 40 dealerships by the end of 2014. The company opened new showroom in Nashik earlier this year. Last year also saw the opening of world-class Audi showrooms in Mumbai South, Lucknow, Bhubaneswar, Delhi Central, Karnal, Vadodara and Mangalore.

Bollywood at 2014 Auto Expo – celebs earn up to Rs. 40 lakh for an appearance of 15 to 20 minutes

Bollywood stars have a penchant towards high end luxury automobiles and, in turn, these bikes and cars are helping them make some big earnings. We have heard that a number of movie stars landed up at the 2014 Auto Expo event held Noida earlier this month to endorse their auto brands.

Priyanka Chopra was found posing atop a high end muscular car while Kareena Kapoor was unveiling a top-end SUV. Ranbir Kapoor was also spotted launching two models of scooters for his auto brand. Another Bollywood star who was present at the expo to endorse his bike brand was John Abraham. The crowd at the Auto Expo went crazy on seeing their favorite movie stars adding more charm to the already glamorous event.

However, we have heard that a few minutes appearance by these celebrities did not come cheap. A source has revealed that depending to the celeb, a simple appearance in which the star poses with the mean machines, smiles and waves at the crowd or get their photographs clicked by the media can cost about Rs. 30 – 80 lakhs! Along with this fee, the movie star is provided with business class return tickets and free stay for them and their personal staff at one of the top 5-star luxurious hotels. The source also revealed that female film stars get to make much more money than their male counterparts at the Auto Expo as it is the glamour and beauty that attracts the attention of the media.

On digging deeper, we discovered that Bollywood celeb like Priyanka Chopra may charge nearly Rs. 40 lakh for an appearance of 15 to 20 minutes while Kareena Kapoor may charge Rs. 30-35 lakhs for the same. However, other stars who come for promoting the brand they endorse do not charge a fee as it is included in their endorsement deal which in itself is worth nearly Rs. 10-12 crore.

2014 Auto Expo – Booth Babes and queens (mega 90 pix gallery)

The 2014 Auto Expo event held in Noida was a lot talked about. Numerous auto makers, both national and international, participated in the event. Some of their finest products were being revealed and launched. However, the talk was not just about the various eye-catching and appealing scooters, bikes and cars. We have heard that the Auto Expo also had modeling girls at its various pavilions.

Modeling girls who took part in the 2014 Auto Expo held earlier this month were mostly college students while some were models from various places. The average daily earning of these modeling girls at the Auto Expo was somewhere between Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 25,000 for only 8 to 10 hours. The chief part of their job was to pose and smile for various cameras. Another requirement for their job was to be able to talk some basic information about the unveiling and launch of various bikes, scooters and cars at the pavilion. It was ensured that the modeling girls were well taken care of and were not misbehaved with by the ‘harrowing crowd’.

Some modeling girls were also put to a briefing session in which the employing company provided them with information regarding their products at display, company’s vision, their brand ideology, etc. The presence of models played a large part in the business as they became the drawing force for many visitors. Some auto makers also employed male models. For example, Audi maintained gender neutrality by employing equal number of female and male models for their booths.

The head of the model coordination company stated that the body language of models at a bike kiosk and at a car launch will be different. The head requested to keep their name anonymous. Some specific auto makers, those displaying joint ventures in terms of technology, employed both Indian and foreign models to symbolize integration.

2014 Auto Expo – Hero’s upcoming scooter range Zir 157, Dare 125 & Dash 110 unveiled

In the past few days we have been continuously bringing you updates about how all the automobile manufacturers are going gaga over the two wheeler segment. In such times, how can the old pro Hero remain lagging? After its split from its Japanese partner Honda, the Indian two wheeler maker has a lot to prove. In the ongoing Indian Auto Expo 2014 the company has come up with a lot of future ready preparations. The best part of Hero’s range this time is that it has come out first time with completely self made range ever since its divorce with Honda. Hence, all eyes will be evaluating the technology being used under the shining steel.

To steal the limelight at the much talked about 2014 Delhi Auto Expo, Hero MotoCorp has come out with a wide number of vehicles and concepts. Amongst the automatic scooters that the company brought on the dais of Auto Expo were Hero Dash, Zir and Dare. However, the showstopper for Hero was the classic Hero Honda Splendor which appeared in a touched up and glam pack new incarnation. This probably indicates the reintroduction of Splendour in the Indian two wheeler market. The brand has been out of buzz corridors since past sometime.

The Hero Dash is a 110cc scooter with the Zir being a 157cc power scooter. The Hero Dare represents company’s entry in 125cc segment. Zir has a maximum power of 14 BHP and a peak torque of 12.7 NM. The Dare has a maximum power output of 6.7 KW and a peak torque figure of 9.5 NM.

The Auto Expo is not the only place where the India born manufacturer is showing off its technological prowess. Just prior to the event, the company had introduced unveiled five new two wheelers including a diesel concept scooter. The segment has received a lot of attention from other players like Mahindra & Mahindra and Yamaha.  Just before this automobile extravaganza, there were some news of details and sketches of Hero’s 600cc superbike being leaked. In all in all, it seems that the company is getting set to ride the big stage even without its long term partner.

2014 Auto Expo – New Hyundai Santa Fe launched in India at Rs. 26.30 lakh

Hyundai is the country’s second largest manufacturer and the largest exporter and they have quite a reputation to live up to. A few months ago, Hyundai launched the Grand i10 with an all new design theme and many segment-first features. Even when the Verna was launched, it came with many segment first features and so did the Accent when it was launched way back then. What Hyundai has done is, they have set a standard for themselves and other manufacturers as well. So, when Hyundai decided to upgrade their Flagship SUV, the Santa Fe, they themselves knew that that had to surpass their own standard, which was a very tough task, as the Santa Fe was a good SUV already. But, they have pulled it off, and it has definitely surpassed the standards set by the previous-gen model.

At the 2014 Auto Expo in Delhi, Hyundai launched the 3rd Gen Santa Fe and we take a look at it. The Santa Fe gets the new global Hyundai design which was first seen on the Grand i10. The new styling is sharper and gives the car clean and bold lines all over. The front of the car has seen a major change in design with a new three-bar hexagonal chrome radiator grille, new sharper looking headlamp cluster and new front bumper as well. All these things had to be new as the Santa Fe has many new features at the front. It gets new Projector lamps with HID’s, new LED daytime running lights and redesigned Fog lamps with cornering option. The dual tone skid plates too add a lot more character to the Santa Fe’s appearance. When viewed from the side, what immediately captures one’s attention is, the 18-inch, two tone, diamond cut alloy wheels. At the rear, the Santa Fe gets redesigned LED combination tail-lamps and new LED spoiler brake lights as well.

The Santa Fe also gets redesigned, futuristic interiors and comes fully loaded with features. The two-tone beige and brown interiors give the car a premium and rich overall feel. The stereo system offered is a 4.3 inch touch-screen infotainment unit with 6-speakers and something, Hyundai calls as virtual orchestra effect for excellent sound quality. The feed from the rear parking camera too goes to this screen and as expected from a car of this calibre, it comes with steering mounted audio controls too. The rear passengers get a separate AC zone with manually operated Air conditioning. It also gets keyless entry, start/stop button, auto folding ORVM’s and the like.

The new 3rd gen Santa Fe is powered by a 3rd gen 2.2-litre CRDe engine with an e-VGT turbocharger. The Electronic Variable Geometry Turbocharger (e-VGT) is efficient and has precise control of exhaust gases for optimal power delivery, thus improving the engine performance across the entire rev range. The engine is tuned to develop more torque at low RPM’s, thus eliminating the need to shift constantly in city driving conditions. Since this is an R series engine, Hyundai has tuned it for more performance, which means more horsepower. The 2.2-litre unit produces an impressive max power of 197 BHP and max torque of 421 NM (MT) and 437 NM (AT), and is mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Santa Fe also gets an intelligent 4-wheel-drive system. The Santa Fe also gets a segment first intelligent steering system called flex steer, with 3 modes (Normal, comfort and sport).

The Santa Fe scores well in the safety aspect too, with features like 6 airbags, advanced Dual seatbelt and state-of-the-art passive safety system, ABS with EBD, ESP and even hillstart assist.

Looks like Hyundai India is now getting used to doing everything perfectly and getting every single thing right with their cars, including the pricing. Prices for the new Santa Fe start from Rs. 26.3 lakhs (ex-showroom New Delhi).

2014 Auto Expo – BMW 3-Series GT launched, i8, X5 & M6 Gran Coupe unveiled

BMW, the German luxury car maker is losing ground in India off late because of the product offensive of Audi and Mercedes Benz. But it’s all geared up to bring it’s A-game to the Indian luxury car market and will be launching a slew of luxury cars this year. The first one to hit the Launchpad is the 3-Series Gran Turismo which has been launched for Rs 42.75 lakhs (ex-showroom, All India). It has been launched in a single variant, the 320d in Luxury trim.

Under the hood will be a 2.0 litre diesel motor that will have a maximum power output of 184 BHP with a peak torque of 380 NM. The engine will be mated to an 8 speed Steptronic Automatic transmission. It gets a rear spoiler which will jump into action once you go past 100 kmph and will retract below 70 kmph. The GT has been joined in by the likes of the X5, i8 and M6 Grand Coupe.

BMW i8 is the car that looks way ahead of its generations. It is propelled by a 131 BHP electric motor that drives the front wheels whereas a 1.5 litre three cylinder petrol motor is the one that develops a maximum power of 231 BHP and drives the rear 2 wheels. That makes a total power of 362 BHP on offer. It will do the 0 to 100 kmph sprint in 4.4 seconds before touching a top speed of 250 kmph which has been electronically limited. The same will be launched towards the end of this year.

At the stall was M6 Gran Coupe as well which will be the flagship M division car from now on. It is propelled by a 4.4 litre Twin-Turbocharged V8 motor that has 553 BHP and 680 NM on offer. Even though it has sloping roof, the car still has a decent space and headroom for even the rear passengers. It will come in via the CBU route later this year.

The facelifted version of the X5 also made a debut at the Auto Expo 2014 and it will be launched later this year as well.

2014 Auto Expo – Audi reveals the A3 sedan; to make it to Indian market

It seems as if, Audi has understood the mindset of the Indian customer well. From the day Audi entered the Indian market, they have been giving tough competition to their rivals, BMW and Mercedes-Benz and they have won over; Audi is now the highest selling premium car manufacturer in India. Even after their success, they aren’t going to sit quiet. The people at Audi, know that their competitors are looking to get back at them and hence the are going to do whatever it takes to defend themselves and the A3 is the product which will help Audi stay on top.

Audi revealed the A3 sedan, touted to be the ‘Next Big Audi’ at the Auto Expo in Delhi, and when it is launched, the A3 would become the most affordable and inexpensive vehicle in the portfolio of Audi India. Audi is targeting the young entrepreneur or the youth of India on the whole with the A3, and they expect the A3 to strike a chord with the young Indian audience and make many more Indians, fans of the German brand.

The Audi A3 was revealed to the world in April-2013 and is already on-sale in Europe and some other countries as well. It is based on parent company Volkswagen’s MQB platform; the very same platform on which the Volkswagen Jetta as well as the new Skoda Octavia are based. The European version of the A3 comes with a choice of three engine options. The petrol versions use either a 1.4-litre TFSI motor with an output of 140 PS and 250 NM or a 1.8-litre TFSI motor with an output of 180 PS and 250 NM. There is only one diesel engine 2.0-litre TDI with an output of 150 PS and 320 NM. The display model at the Auto Expo was the 1.8 TFSI and in all probability, Audi will make only the 1.8 TFSI and the 2.0 TDI available in India.

We expect the A3 to be priced below Rs. 25 lakhs when launched. This car might as well change the face of premium motoring as we all see it right now 🙂 .

2014 Auto Expo – DC Design unveils Eleron SUV & Tia 2-seater city car

DC Design was founded in the year 1993 and from then on it has been successful in creating a product portfolio of 700 strong and unique cars. The company will start the deliveries of first Indian supercar, Avanti, from this month onwards. The first batch will comprise of 25 cars to be delivered to their owners at a price of Rs. 25 lakhs. The India based design house has showcased two important cars at the event. One is a radically designed SUV while the other is a sub-Nano small car.

The SUV to be unveiled by the design house has been named Eleron. It is  a convertible. With a seating capacity of four adults, Eleron will appear irrationally dimensioned. It will carry stunning, gorgeous looks that will make it highly attractive and alluring vehicle. It has a 2.0-litre petrol motor under the hood with a maximum power output of 265BHP and simplistic interiors.

The compact car that has been introduced by DC Design has been named TIA. This vehicle is a two seater car. Its overall length will be less than seven feet. TIA is a convertible compact car. A teaser picture of the TIA small car’s front-end was released in the past week. It has a 1.2-litre motor with 120 BHP on offer mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission.

Both, Eleron SUV and Tia compact car have been designed to appeal to niche audience. The Tia has a price tag of Rs 18 lakhs while the SUV sibling costs Rs 35 lakhs. The two vehicles will become available for sale in the year 2016. Dilip Chhabria, founder of DC Design, revealed that the company has invested Rs. 50 crore on the production of each car. The design house is hoping to sell about 500 units of Eleron and 1000 units of Tia per year.

The car looks nothing short of amazing and the same will cater to a very niche audience. Do let us know as to what you think about the cars.
