General Motors India will see the launch of its first product in collaboration with its Chinese partner SAIC, the Sail U-VA hatchback in October. Now our regular reader Sahil Sabharwal has snapped some pictures of Chevrolet Sail U-VA parked in Tilak Nagar, West Delhi. This car was earlier showcased at the 2012 Auto Expo this-year and will replace the current UV-A hatchback.
Based on a more-than-a-decade old Opel platform, the car will be launched in both petrol and diesel variants. The Sail U-VA diesel variant will borrow Fiat’s 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine that already powers more than 10 cars in Indian auto market and its one of the most efficient engines available. A 1.2-litre petrol engine, shared with the Beat, will also be on offer.
However, the biggest selling point of the Sail U-VA hatchback will be its spacious interiors. The top-end variants are expected to be available with airbags and ABS as prominent safety features. Looks wise, the Sail is dated looking and is nothing really to write home about. But there does exist a solid market for even the plainer looking cars in the B+ segment as has been evident with the stellar success of the Ford Figo.
Now some trusted sources reveal, that the petrol variant of Chevrolet Sail U-VA is priced at Rs 4.2 lakh, whereas the diesel variant is priced at Rs 5.8 lakh (all prices mentioned, ex-showroom). Like GM’s other models in India, this too will be backed by the Chevrolet’s 3 years, 1,00,000 Kilometer engine warranty and inorder to further attract the buyers the company might offer “Chevrolet Promise” subsidized maintenance package of 3 years/45,000 Kms maintenance.
