Dacia Duster (Renault Duster for Indian readers) is slated to launch next week in India on 4th-July, but before that, it has been launched in UK with a base price tag of £8,995 OTR (Rs 7.98 lakh), making Duster as the cheapest SUV in the country. Renault Duster is now available for pre-order in the UK from today across all official showrooms.
The Duster SUV was first launched back in 2010 in Europe. Developed by Renault owned Romanian car maker, Dacia, Duster SUV is 4.31 meters in length, 1.82 meters in width and has a ground clearance of 210 mm. The SUV is available in both petrol and diesel engined variants for the UK market, just like it is in India. However, the UK spec Duster gets only two engine tunes. The 1.6 Liter petrol engine produces a peak power of 105 PS while the 1.5 Liter K9K diesel engine produces 110 PS-240 Nm.
For the Indian market though, the 1.5 Liter turbo diesel engine is also available in a lower state of tune, producing 85 Bhp-200 Nm. While the petrol engine and the lower spec turbo diesel engine will be mated to a five speed gearbox, the 110 PS diesel engine will be mated to a six speed manual transmission. In UK, the Duster will be available in both 4X2 as well as 4X4 versions. However, the Indian car buyer will not have a 4X4 variant to choose from.
The SUV is available in three trim levels: Access, Ambiance and Laureate. All the three variants of the car comes with 16-inch steel/alloy wheels, ABS, longitudinal roof bars, electric front windows, fog lights, four airbags, height adjustable steering wheel, trip computer, scuff plates and side sills. The Duster also comprises gadgets like Bluetooth, USB connectivity and Radio or CD system with AUX. The top-end model of Duster (Laureate) will add electric rear windows, leather wrapped steering wheel, 16 inch alloys, trip computer, AC, satin chrome finish for the roof bars, side sills, scuff plates, and outside door handles.
Dacia is offering a three years or 1,00,000 kilometers standard warranty that will make the company a compelling owner of the SUV. All these marketing strategies were successful as they have been applied earlier by the company in the markets of Germany and France. So, we see no reason as to why Dacia Duster will not be successful in the markets of UK also.

What we say? Renault India at their Chennai factory has to produce enough units of the SUV to cater the demand of both the markets the company has targeted.
