This is quite exciting, guys. Here we present the very first photos of the Chevrolet Essentia compact sedan on test on the streets of Pune, ahead of its market launch next-year.
That’s right, this compact sedan is based on the Beat hatchback. The Beat sedan has been under development since 2013, and is due for launch in early 2017. These plans first came to light when the automaker unveiled the Essentia concept at the 2016 Auto Expo. However, it remains to be seen what all elements are carried forward in the production-spec model from the display car.
Now the company might have given the green light for production, thus entered into the testing phase of its product development cycle, as a single test mule was spotted on public roads with heavy camouflage. It will be positioned below the Sail sedan, and will compete with Maruti Dzire, Ford Figo Aspire, Hyundai Xcent, Tata Zest and Volkswagen Ameo.
The Chevrolet Essentia would share its powertrain lineup with the new Beat hatchback, the same 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and 1.0-litre three-cylinder diesel engine. Both these engines will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
