Homegrown automaker Mahindra and Mahindra have reportedly delayed the launch of their compact SUV, the S201 here. The S201 was scheduled for a launch during the upcoming festive season. As per reports, the compact SUV will be launched in January-2019.
Mr. Pawan Goenka, managing director of Mahindra, recently said that the company planned to launch two models during the festive season. This would be followed by the launch of another model in January-2019. Reports claim that the Marazzo MPV and XUV 700 premium SUV in line for a launch in Diwali-2018.
This would mean the S201, being one of the three models planned by the company, will arrive here in January next-year. Coming to the S201, the compact SUV is based on the Ssangyong Tivoli, popular in various Asian markets. It will arrive in both petrol and diesel options here.
The petrol motor will be a 1.2-litre Turbo which will offer around 140 BHP of power, On the other hand comma there will be a 1.5-litre diesel engine which gives 120 BHP of power and 250 NM of torque. There will also be the option of an AMT transmission alongside the manual one.
We can expect Mahindra To price the S201 aggressively in order to compete with Rivals. These include the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport and the Tata Nexon. With the S201 Mahindra will look to correct some mistakes which happened by launching at the compact SUVs in the past.
