Hyundai Motor India has today unveiled its much-awaited Grand i10 compact sedan called ‘Xcent’ and the deliveries will commence from March-2014. As the Xcent comes under 4-metres in length it qualifies for small car excise duty benefits. The Xcent will go against the Maruti Swift DZire, Honda Amaze, Tata Zest and the new Ford Figo compact sedan, and is expected to grab the share in the compact sedan segment like the Grand i10 hatch.

The Hyundai Xcent is the replacement for the Hyundai Accent sedan. On the exterior, the Xcent is essentially a ‘boot-ed’ version of the Grand i10 hatch and as seen in the pictures we have here, sports a stubby boot and new taillamps. Unlike what we thought , the Xcent doesn’t get a set of new rear doors or a new front bumper. Surprisingly, the front fascia of the new sedan seems to be exactly the same as that of the donor hatchback.

As far as the interiors are concerned, the biggest change is the improved legroom in the rear seat, besides also gets a rear seat arm rest and climate control AC. On the inside, the Xcent get features dual tone beige and black interiors including seats, multiple storage options on the door trims and center console, rear aircon vents, smart key with push button start, electro chromic mirror with rear camera display, rear parking sensors and camera, 2-DIN audio with USB and 1 GB memory, auto folding mirrors, one-touch electric trunk opening, steering mounted controls with Bluetooth, glovebox cooling and rear armrest cup holder.

Under the hood, the Xcent will be offered in both petrol and diesel engine options. The Xcent will be bestowed with same 1.2-litre petrol engine and 1.1-litre diesel engine as offered in its sibling Grand i10 hatchback. It is also expected that company may stun audiences with 1.4-litre diesel engine, however its chances are very less. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed AT for the petrol, though there is a possibility of the diesel getting an AT box, sometime in future.
