In January-2013, Honda wheeled out the ‘Urban SUV Concept’ at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show at the Cobo Center in Detroit, Michigan. The Urban SUV Concept previewed a small crossover that will be the baby of Japanese car manufacturer’s SUV range. The production version the Urban SUV Concept will be unveiled at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show later this-month. Now before the official unveil, patent images of the Urban SUV concept’s production version have leaked onto the interweb.
Looking onto the leaked pictures, you will hardly notice any prominent difference between the concept model and the production version. Except few parts like alloy wheels, fog lamp clusters, side skirting of the concept have been replaced with production versions. The new car will follow the Honda’s latest H-Design first seen in the recently unveiled 2015 Honda Fit/Jazz and also will be seen in the upcoming Honda City which is scheduled to launch on 25th December, 2013.
The Urban SUV will be the third product to be developed on 2014 Honda Jazz platform. Similarly Honda has utilized their small car Brio-platform to develop a sedan (Amaze) and MPV (Mobilo). Coming to the technical specifications, the Urban SUV is expected to inherit the same 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine available in the current Honda City along with a newly introduced 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine. The Jazz-based SUV is expected to be launched by end-2014 or early-2015.
Once launched, the Urban SUV will directly compete with the likes of Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and Ford EcoSport.
