Mitsubishi Xpander MPV on the radar for India, to come with a 1.5-litre petrol engine

Mitsubishi will look to get its Indian operations back on track more sooner than later. The automaker is working out a strategy which will be implemented in the near future. As far as we know about it, there is a mid-size SUV and an MPV lined up for launch.

Mitsubishi Xpander is a Ertiga-rival that’s targeted towards the modern nuclear family.

As far as the MPV segment is concerned, Mitsubishi will look on to the Xpander, sold in various Asian markets. On sale in markets such as Thailand and Indonesia, the Xpander will generally target the modern and large family in search of a perfect people mover. The Xpander can seat 7 people and also have a fair amount of boot space left to store luggage.

Coming to its design, the Xpander looks attractive on the outside. The front features Mitsubishi’s signature family grille wrapped with LED daytime running lights. On the rear, there are attractive looking tail-lamps, with the side featuring a floating C-pillar.

The Xpander will no doubt come with a host of features. These include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, roof-mounted AC vents, push-button start, keyless entry, 16-inch alloy wheels and so on. As far as safety is concerned, the Xpander comes with as many as 6 airbags, child safety locks, height adjustable front and rear seat belts, crash sensors, ABS with EBD and so on.

Mitsubishi will need to locally manufacture the MPV at the Renault-Nissan Alliance plant in Tamil Nadu.

Engine-wise, the Xpander will be powered by a 1.5-litre petrol motor. This engine can produce 105 BHP of power and 141 Nm of torque. It can come mated either to a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic one.

We can expect the Xpander to be launched here sometime in 2020. The Xpander will rival the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Renault Lodgy and the Honda BR-V. As far as our opinion is concerned, we find the Xpander as the ideal product for Mitsubishi to increase its presence, also work on improving their number of sales and service outlets across India.
