Mahindra and Mahindra will be launching another compact SUV from its stable to the Indian market soon. Codenamed the S201, this vehicle will be based on the SsangYong Tivoli sold internationally. The S201 is slated for its first launch of 2019.
There have been numerous instances where the S201 was spotted undergoing testing. Once again, the compact SUV was seen, this time it was a production-ready model of it. The S201 was wrapped in camouflage, only showcasing LED DRL’s at the front and rear, along with attractive looking dual-tone machined alloy wheels and a disc brake at the rear.
Overall, the design of the S201 looks boxy, but Mahindra are expected to make up for it. This is by giving the S201 features like a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control, rear parking sensors, keyless entry and automatic headlamps. Safety features include dual airbags, ABS with EBD, cruise control, ESP, hill start assist and tyre pressure monitor system.
Engine-wise, the S201 will be available in both the options of petrol and diesel. The petrol engine will be a 1.5-litre, turbo one, producing 121 BHP of power and 300 Nm of torque. On the other hand, there will be a 1.5-litre diesel engine, capable of delivering 100 BHP of power and 240 Nm of torque.
Both will come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, with an automatic version set to arrive later in its life cycle. When launched, the S201 will be rivalling the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford Ecosport and the Tata Nexon in the popular compact SUV segment. Mahindra will be having high hopes on the S201 and it remains to be seen if the compact SUV can live-up to the hype it has generated for quite some time now.
