It has become a known fact that Mahindra will launch a compact SUV in early-2019. Codenamed the S201, the car was spied undergoing testing by BharathAutos reader Kashaf on the streets of Mangalore, Karnataka. The S201 is being driven against challenging road conditions outside the city.
Looking at the pictures, we can see the S201 in a near-production version. The car features wraparound headlamps with integrated LED DRL’s at the rear. A large air dam was visible from its front profile, which the S201 is spotted with horizontal fog lamps.
The S201 will have a long list of features as well when it gets launched. These include a touchscreen infotainment system, two USB ports, 17-inch alloy wheels, panoramic sunroof, automatic climate control and so on. Safety features include dual airbags, ABS with EBD, cruise control, ESP and hill climb assist.
Engine-wise, the S201 will be available in both petrol and diesel options. The petrol engine will be a 1.2-litre G80 turbo which will be introduced at the time of its arrival. On the other hand, there will be a 1.5-litre diesel motor capable of delivering 123 BHP of power and 300 Nm of torque.
Both engines will come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, with automatic being offered as an option. The S201 will have its rivals in the form of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford Ecosport and the Tata Nexon. We can expect the S201 to arrive at a starting price of Rs. 7 lakh, which will be good enough to draw attention.
