As we reported earlier, HM India is planning to launch a sub 4-meter ambassador model in a couple of months. Seems like HM is experimenting, we cannot say exactly what is cooking in the Hindustan Motor’s house, because on one hand they talk about launching an entirely revamped version next year but on the other – Alas! They’re trying out different gimmicks to sell this car.
HM recently launched the pick-up version of Amby called ‘Veer ‘and now they are gearing up to launch compact version of Amby. Well let’s wait and see what else we can expect from the Amby.
A shorter, cheaper version of HM’s best seller, the Ambassador CS, is set to release next year. The shortened Amby will sport a re-tuned version of the existing 1.5-litre diesel motor. Expect minor tweaks to the rest of the design and spruced up interiors as well. HM is expected to update the motor significantly to boost performance and, to meet latest emission standards, it is likely to be turbocharged. The car could also be offered in the CNG option.
I personally think Ambassador is best in class for comfort and rear seat comfort which no other cars have been able to provide in the segment. Solid built to last long, but then newer technology with better engines, refinement, looks and other parameters came along and HM thought they would outclass them, which didn’t happen. It still sells but mostly in eastern region and mostly as taxis only.
