2012 Tata Safari Merlin is here, spied once again, thanks to an amateur photographer from IndianCarsBikes.in. The Tata Merlin SUV was spied last month too by our reader Pavan Rao, although we all know what the final product will look like as we have already brought you the uncamouflaged images of the Merlin on a couple of occasions.
It will draw inspiration from the Land Rover, the Merlin sports a flatter front end, and a different read without the spare wheel. The engine is the enduring 2.2 litre DICOR turbo diesel unit affording 140 Bhp and 320 Nm. Interiors are pruned with premium looks with an uncanny resemblance to those of the recently launched TATA Aria. One can expect a 2 wheel and a four wheel drive option but an automatic gearbox seems unlikely. Other features include ABS, EBD and airbags which are the default safety apparatus on the Merlin.
The Tata Safari Merlin is another model derived out of Tata Motor’s innovative marketing strategy. The Vista evolved from the Indica, the Manza from the Indigo, the Grande from the Sumo and now Merlin from the Safari. Both the Safari and Merlin will be sold separately, with the Merlin filling the void between the Safari and Aria.
