Hindustan Motors had earlier announced a new plan which included a compact sedan based on the Ambassdor. It seem like the company is now testing the compact version and it could hit the markets in a couple of months.
The compact version of the Ambassdor will be shorter in length, under 4 metres and will qualify for the small car excise duty. The overall design will also be slightly modified, along with the interiors getting a more modern dashboard. The new Ambassador is all set for official launch at the 2012 Auto Expo and will feature a slight tweak to its 1.5 litre diesel engine. The current motor produces just 35.5bhp of power and 13.7 kgm of torque. A turbocharger might be added to make the Amby quick, otherwise expect the Nano to outrun it in a quarter mile drag race.
The car could also be offered in the CNG option.
