Ford India has unveiled the most anticipated car in recent times, Ford EcoSport, in Bangalore today. The unveiling is part of the company’s promotional activities for the EcoSport that started with EcoSport Urban Discoveries campaign. Previous week, Ford India unveiled EcoSport in front of Mumbai and Delhi crowd at a shopping mall in respective city.
I apologize for the blur images, because of crowd it was impossible to click hi-res images, the event is held at Bangalore’s Mantri Square Mall for 3 days 29th, 30th & 31st of March-2013. Ford India has not launched the EcoSport officially, but this is them trying to promote their new SUV by displaying it to the public and potential buyers at malls with highest-footfalls in 12 Indian cities.
At the first glimpse from far, the Ecosport seen to me has the mixture of Evoque and X1, than observed closely the car looks like a grown-up hatch. Although the car looks fantastic from outside, I guess the EcoSport is not spacious as its rival sub-4-metre Quanto, also no provision for rear jump seats, the boot space too is not amazing. You can see plenty of borrowings from its siblings Figo and Fiesta.
But the killer and sexy appeal will influence or attract many buyers, mostly youngsters who are willing to buy muscular car with a good mileage at a low price say below Rs 10 lakhs. Today’s report in Economic Times, the Ford EcoSport is expected to undercut the pricing of its main competitor, the Renault Duster, by more than Rs. 1 lakh which will make the SUV market even more competitive, at a introductory price of Rs 5.9-6 lakh for the base model.
As I said above the EcoSport is not spacious, even compared to Duster in 2nd row seating and a boot as well. Although the EcoSport has a seating capacity for 5-people, I felt it bit uncomfortable in the 2nd row and I guess the seating is uncomfortable for 3-adults at rear, instead 2-adults and a children can make the ride much more better.
Inspite of my efforts, the folks at campaign did not disclose further engine specifications or the pricing or the launch date for the EcoSport, and said that these would be revealed in the course of the campaign. The 12 cities the EcoSport Urban Discoveries Campaign include Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Kochi, Ludhiana, Chennai, Jaipur, Kolkata and Hyderabad.
If you are not from any of the above 12 cities where Ford India will be showcasing the EcoSport or don’t have the time to visit the campaign, below is the image of EcoSport SUV from Bangalore.
