Last week’s strike by workers at Maruti Suzuki’s Manesar facility have cost the automaker not just loss in production but also seems to have thrown a spanner in its new model launch plans. The wait for the most awaited hatchback of 2011 Swift just got a bit longer. 2011 Maruti Suzuki Swift which is set to replace the five year old current model and is postponed for another quarter leading to an October launch. The current Swift itself commands a huge waiting period and this time, it is the labor-management relationship to blame.
The company manufacturers over 1 lakh units every month but due to the production loss, it would manage only 65000 units. Furthermore, the company is running over capacity already so there are very slim chances of recovering loss production by increasing capacity. All this is only good news for rival automakers like Honda and Toyota who are entering the hatchback segment with the Brio and Etios Liva respectively.
