RENDERED: Maruti Suzuki YRA – hot-hatch for the future?

Yes, we know. Maruti Suzuki ‘YRA’ (codenamed) – the premium hatch has been already revealed without a single piece of camouflage in the latest spyshots but the rendered picture shows the YRA with projector lights and LED daytime running lamps (DRLs) which the India-spec model will get to set itself more expensive than the popular Swift.

2015-maruti-suzuki-yra-premium-htachback-rendered-pictureMaruti Suzuki YRA is big and wide; will be placed above the Swift!

The look is little unexciting with headlamps does look like a mix of the current and previous generation Swift’s and the tail-lamps look plain but apart from this, almost every other element follows a fresh and eye-catchy approach. Maruti needs to make a big impact to succeed in this segment, and is throwing a lot of equipment at it to do so.

The roofline is unlike any other Maruti’s hatchbacks because most of it have a very upright C-pillar in the interest of maximizing room in the cabin, this one seems to have a sloping roof and ends in a very steeply raked windscreen. Further, the company has realised the importance of rear seat space in Indian market, therefore, the Ciaz and now YRA come with the generous cabin space. Also you can bet it will have a big boot too.

The YRA is expected to go on-sale in India in the second half of 2015, will weight a good 90 kg lighter than the Swift, and will borrow comfort & standard safety features from the Ciaz. The car’s USP over the Swift will be more to do with cabin/boot space and features.
