Datsun Go hatchback spied for the first time

Japanese car maker, Nissan’s low-cost car brand, Datsun was re-launched after 32 long years on July-2013 in New Delhi. At time of the brand launch, Mr. Carlos Ghosn flew into India to unveil the first product bearing the Datsun badge on the bonnet, the ‘Datsun Go’ hatchback. After showing the first Datsun Go in India, the company unveiled the brand’s second model, the ‘Go+’ an 7-seater MPV in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The Datsun Go hatch is speculated to be previewed at 2014 Indian Auto Expo and will go on-sale in first half of the next-year in India. The Go hatchback is likely to sit under the Nissan Micra Active variant at a price starting under Rs.3.5 lakh. To keep costs low, the Go shares parts with the Nissan Micra, that is evident with a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine and  also its sibling’s V platform that it shares with the Micra.

Now the test-mule of the same has been landed here in India, and we have a first look at it here. Thanks to Team-BHP reader Mr. Abdul Shukoor, for sharing the spy pictures uncamouflaged Datsun Go test-mule spotted in and around the Renault-Nissan factory at Oragadam, off Chennai.  The car is identically the same, no changes in the final production version was spotted, apart from the masked ‘Datsun’ logo and the ‘Go’ badge on the bootlid for some reason.

The major plus point of Go hatchback is the dash mounted gearbox, which actually fits 3 people in the front seats and 3 people at the rear with the total seating capacity of 6 people. The Datsun Go hatch will be competing with the likes of the Maruti Wagon R, Hyundai i10, Chevrolet Spark and not to mention, its very own Micra Active.
