The much anticipated hatch by Datsun was finally revealed today at an event in New Delhi. The new car which was called K2 until now has been officially named as the Datsun Go and will be launched in 2014. The Datsun is new brand brought by Nissan to sell lower end budget cars in the market.
Datsun interiors were unveiled but these interiors are still in prototyping stage. At the close look we can see the car gear shift has been mounted on dash, the interiors have styling clues taken from Nissan Micra. But since the interiors are not yet fully finalized, we can expect interiors to be even better. The seat upholstery seems to be of good quality. There are no fabrics seen on door pads. Datsun go will also come with a tacho, rear power windows and a close-able glovebox. The front seats get fixed headrests. The front seats extend all the way till the driver seat giving more free space in the front thanks to the dash mounted gear box, we can now actually fit 3 people in the front.
The Datsun Go is powered by 1.2 litre petrol engine that will have performance figures at par with those of most of the rivals, this 1.2 litre engine will be shared from Nissan Micra. The engine is fine tuned to give maximum mileage. The other car specifications are yet to be unveiled.
The Datsun Go will be the next rival for Hyundai i10, Maruti Suzuki Wagon-R and Maruti A-Star. It will be positioned below the Nissan Micra segment. Datsun Go may be built on the old Nissan Micro platform. Overall the car looks superb and is ready to occupy well settled position in this segment. Prices are expected to be less than 4 lakhs.
