2011 Maruti Swift isn’t the only big launch in the Indian auto industry on 17th August. Volkswagen’s all new, fifth generation Jetta will also officially launched on the same date. The new Volkswagen Jetta shares no parts with the Golf (a car on which the original Jetta was based on) and is 4.64 metres long, 1.45 metres tall and 1.78 metres wide. The all new VW Jetta has an increased legroom thanks to a longer wheelbase. This makes the 2011 Jetta 9 cm longer than model it replaces.
The German automaker is heavily betting on the diesel model as fuel prices have been raising continuously. The all new VW Jetta in India is expected to get a 1.8 TSi and a 2.0 TDi engine. The most probable of the lot though is the 2.0 TDi diesel engine in the new Jetta will produce 140 bhp of power and 320 Nm of torque. VW might also bring in the 1.8 TSi but even if they launch this, it won’t be a hot seller as the diesel variant.
Volkswagen could offer the choice of a 6-speed DSG and a 6-speed manual gearbox. VW’s BlueMotion could also be offered on the Jetta except for some features which would be unique to the new Passat. Low rolling resistance tires and the DSG slush box could make the list.
The German car maker also announced during the cars unveiling that the car does not share any of its body panels with the Golf and are thus unique to the 2011 VW Jetta. Of course, being a Volkswagen, built quality will be top notch with high quality materials. Price of the 2.0 TDI is expected to be around the current models pricing with the variant top-of-the-line with DSG the most expensive of the lot.
