Bajaj Auto will launch a new sub-brand in India in 2016, it will be positioned between the Discover and the Pulsar. The new sub-brand will feature a design blend between the commuter and the cruiser motorcycles; this Bajaj model is expected to be priced in range of Rs. 50,000 – 60,000.
The brand will focus on commuter motorcycle that offers the comfort of a cruiser motorcycle, aimed at young and hip motorcycle buyers in India. This new sub-brand will co-exist alongside its popular Discover range and the company plans to introduce more variants under this new brand. The first model under the new brand would be a 150cc model which will be followed by a 135cc model later.
Seeing at the engine compartment, it is being speculated that the test-mule here bears the 150cc heart. This unit is expected to be 150cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled petrol motor producing around 15 BHP of power paired to a 5-speed gearbox. This cross-breed commuter motorcycle would undoubtedly be tuned for fuel economy rather than outright performance.
Another report reveals that Bajaj Auto has classified its segmentation plan into 3 categories – Neutral, Youthful and Mature. The Platina and the CT100 fall under the ‘Neutral’ category whereas the Discover brand comes under the ‘Youthful’ category. The new brand, which Pune-based motorcycle manufacturer is expected to introduce in the Indian market soon, will come under the ‘Mature’ category.
