Folks at BikeWale have managed to spot this strange looking test-mule that is using some derivative of a Bajaj Avenger 150. From the pictures, it looks like it has bulbous fuel tank, fat rear tyre and a different-styled exhaust.
So, what exactly is the story with this motorcycle? The publication is suggesting that it could it be a prototype of an all-new brand that will co-exist with the current Discover in the commuter class targeted to appeal younger audiences. But like the Discover brand, there could be lesser capacity engine options on the new Bajaj commuter as well.
This test-mule is early prototype with mismatched parts and a lot of camouflage to ensure its identity is hidden. At first glimpse it resembles a bit of the Bajaj Avenger with cruiser like stance. However, a fake Pulsar headlamp added for a distraction reveal that the company doesn’t want to risk running it just yet. This mean the new motorcycle will come with twin exposed clocks and a naked headlamp or a bikini fairing.
The recent test-mule spotted by BikeWale featured a small 150 cc engine which would be coupled to a 5-speed gearbox. This single-cylinder unit is likely to produce around 14bhp-15bhp of maximum power. Further looking at the spy shots, the test-mule has 17-inch alloy wheel at front and 16-inch alloy wheel at rear. The bike features a 240mm single disc brake at front and a 130mm drum brake at rear.
If the Bajaj Avenger does move down in size, would it be formidable to existing Avenger owners who do not want to weaken the Avenger brand with a smaller and cheaper motorcycle. Well, only time will tell!
