Aprilia will be keen on making a mark on the scooter division here once again. As a result, the Piaggio-owned brand has planned two new offerings for the market which are set to arrive here soon. The first of them will be the SXR 160, which is said to be launching here in November this year.
It will be followed by its smaller twin, the SXR 125, which will come here during early 2021. Both of them were first unveiled during the 2020 Auto Expo which was held earlier this year. The SXR 160 and SXR 125 gathered a lot of excitement from the viewers during the event, with most of them waiting for Aprilia to launch them as soon as possible.
Both of them are traditionally maxi-scooters and are based on Aprilia’s Cross-Max concept. The design of the above concept looked quite impressive and the duo will borrow a lot of bits from it. Aprilia will also look to cash in on the maxi-scooter segment here, which at the moment is one of huge potential.
The SXR 160 and SXR 125 will get features such as LED headlamps, smartphone connectivity and a digital instrument cluster, all of which are seen in pretty much every scooter these days. On the engine front, Aprilia will provide the same engines as seen on the SR 160 and SR 125 currently. Both of them have been recently upgraded to the current BS-VI norms, which is a good sign.
There is a possibility of the specifications being changed for the SXR duo. This may be due to Aprilia wanting to place them above the SR twins in their India line-up. We can expect the SXR 160 to be priced at around Rs.1.35 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and the SXR 125 to arrive with a price tag of around Rs. 1.25 lakh.
