Tata debuted the H5X SUV in the 2018 Auto Expo in greater Noida. It received a good response there and Tata Motors are ticking all the right boxes for its launch scheduled next year. Recently, the H5X SUV was spotted undergoing testing in its production phase.
The H5X was wrapped in camouflage and was spotted at the Pune-Goa expressway. Tata Motors have recently revealed that the H5X will be based on the underpinnings of the Land Rover Discovery Sport. If that is the ease, the production-spec SUV will be a first of its kind Tata car which will employ technology from JLR.
It will be underpinned by the new ‘Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced’ platform (OMEGA). This platform is based on that of the land Rover Discovery Sport. We can expect the design of the H5X to be eye-catching and similar to the one seen in concept form at the Auto Expo 2018.
Coming to the engine, the H5X will be powered by a 2.0-litre MultiJet II Diesel engine sourced form Fiat. This engine will be capable of producing 140-170 BHP of power. It will come mated to a ZF sourced 9-speed automatic transmission, with a 6-speed manual transmission being offered as an option.
Prices are expected to start from Rs. 15 lakh and go all the way to Rs. 22 lakh. The H5X will lock horns with the Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson and the Renault Captur in the popular mid-size SUV segment. It is expected to be the flagship model from Tata Motors product line-up when it gets launched.
