Aprilia are looking on entering the 150cc affordable performance motorcycle segment for a while now. The Piaggio-owned company showcased the RS150 and the Tuono 150 during the 2018 Auto Expo. Both models received a good response there and Aprilia will be keen on cashing in on it.
As per reports, Aprilia is set to be introducing a 150cc motorcycle for our market during the upcoming Auto Expo. It is not yet clear on which model between the two will get launched. We can also not rule out a possibility of Aprilia introducing a whole new model.
Earlier this year, the GPR150 was spotted during a rider meet in Goa. The GPR150 is sold in the Chinese market and is said to be evaluated for India. The model coming here will be based on Aprilia’s Chinese-spec and Euro-spec models.
It will consist of features such as a digital instrument cluster, front and rear disc brakes, ABS, clip-on handlebars to name a few. Engine-wise, the motorcycle will employ a 150cc, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected motor. This motor is expected to be making about 17-20 BHP of power.
The engine may come mated to a 6-speed gearbox. It will rival the likes of the Yamaha YZF-R15, Suzuki Gixxer SF, Bajaj Pulsar NS160 and the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V. Aprilia will hope that the 150cc motorcycle will generate as much hype as its popular scooter range here.
