Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) is considering the luxury premium Alphard MPV for the Indian market, according to a report on Overdrive. Although the Indian MPV market isn’t getting much attention, no one knows this product segment better than Toyota!
The paint hasn’t even dried on the recently-launched Toyota Innova Crysta – we haven’t even seen the petrol variant the car, for one – and already there’s talk of a luxury premium MPV. The Alphard is a full size luxury MPV with genuine 7- or 8-seater capability and will be positioned above the Innova and below the GLS / Q7, where space exists for a luxury premium MPV.
However, the Alphard MPV will be expensive priced around Rs 50 lakh. To justify the price tag, it will come equipped with the hybrid powertrain, leather upholstery, state of the art entertainment systems and a panoramic sunroof. It will use the same 2.5-litre petrol hybrid powertrain that’s used in the current Camry hybrid that’s already on-sale in India.
