WagonR sales cross 1-mn units mark in 12 years

Despite the burgeoning passenger car market and competition, the country’s largest carmaker and the leader with nearly half the sales in passenger car segment, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) has announced that its tallboy WagonR has crossed the milestone of 10 lakh unit’s sales mark since its launch in 1999.

WagonR is the fourth model from the company’s portfolio that has crossed the 10 lakh unit’s sales mark. Earlier its best selling model Alto, once bread-and-butter car M800 and multi-purpose van Omni achieved this feat.

The company introduced a new version of the Wagon R about a year ago, and managed to outclass the Santro with more space and more modern and efficient engine. The car’s sales got a boost after the new model was launched. The Wagon R sells around 15,000 units a month is the second highest selling car in the country after Alto.

The new WagonR was launched in 2010 and is available in Petrol, CNG and LPG fuel options. The car is equipped with a 1-liter, 3-cylinder K-series 999cc engine with 67bhp of peak power and 90Nm of torque. . The car competes with its arch rival Hyundai Santro, Chevrolet Beat, Ford Figo and its own cousins the A-star and Zen Estilo.
