Volkswagen have teased their upcoming compact SUV for the Brazilian market, christened the Nivus. The Nivus, in profile, is based on the T-Sport concept showcased by Volkswagen last year. It is set for a launch there in mid-2020.
There is also talk of the German automaker considering it for the Indian market. Volkswagen group have said that they will give importance to the SUV segment here by launching a slew of models in the next few years. This will start with the T-Cross mid-size SUV coming next year.
It will be based on the MQB AO-IN platform. This platform is a localised version of Volkswagen’s famed MQB AO platform. The Nivus will be underpinned by a derivative of the latter in Brazil.
It will be placed below the T-Cross in Volkswagen’s line-up there. Engine-wise, the Brazilian-spec Nivus employs a 1.0 litre turbocharged petrol motor. This motor can make up to 115 BHP of power and is offered either in a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed DSG automatic transmission.
As per reports, Volkswagen will be bring the Nivus Subcompact Coupe Crossover to India by 2022. It is set to come at a price ranging from Rs. 8-12 lakh (ex-showroom). When launched, it will rival the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Ford Ecosport, Mahindra XUV300 and the upcoming Kia QYI in the compact SUV segment here.
