Volkswagen is planning to launch as many as 4 SUVs for the Brazilian market in the coming years. These include that T-Cross mid-size SUV, an SUV called the Tarek, a B-SUV (Fortuner Rival) and a compact crossover. While we can expect the first three to arrive in Indian shores, the compact crossover has not yet been confirmed for the Indian market.
Volkswagen will develop this compact SUV keeping in mind the demands of emerging markets in South America and Asia. The Indian market can also fit into this category, but it remains to be seen what will be the decision. Our market has seen a rapid rise in demand for vehicles belonging to sub 4-metre segment, so this may prompt VW in bringing it here.
This compact crossover will be under pinned by VW’s low-cost ‘MQB A0 IN’ Platform. The vehicle will be developed in Volkswagen Chakan plant in Pune, if Volkswagen confirms it for the Indian market. Volkswagen will be keen on bringing this compact crossover to India by 2020.
We can expect its launch take place after the automaker rolls out its mid-size SUV (Creta arrival) in 2020 as well. When launched, it may rival the likes of the Ford Freestyle, Hyundai i20 Active and Toyota Etios Cross. This vehicle may prove to be a success, given that Volkswagen has done well with the Ameo compact Sedan, which at present is the only sub-4-meter vehicle in their India lineup.
