Volkswagen showcased Ameo, Tiguan, Passat GTE & Beetle at 2016 Auto Expo

At the 2016 Auto Expo, Volkswagen India has showcased its line-up of upcoming vehicles, include the Ameo compact sedan, Tiguan SUV, Passat GTE luxury sedan and the recently launched new Beetle.

 
Volkswagen Ameo

Unveiled just ahead of the auto expo event, the Ameo is exclusively developed for the Indian car market and it marks the Volkswagen’s entry into the compact sedan segment. The company has confirmed that the launch is scheduled to take place in the second half of 2016.

The Ameo fills a gap between Polo and Vento. It will come powered with 2 engine options – The 1.5-litre TDI diesel engine paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed DSG, and the 1.2-litre three-cylinder MPI petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

 
Volkswagen Tiguan

In India, the Tiguan is confirmed for launch in third-quarter of the year priced around Rs. 25 lakh, when launched will compete with the Ford’s all-new Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner and Chevrolet Trailblazer. It was first revealed at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.

Based on Volkswagen Group’s Modularer Querbaukasten (MQB) platform, the Tiguan is a blend of luxury, handling, safety and efficiency, powered by 2.0-litre diesel engine will come equipped with 7-speed DSG gearbox.

 
Volkswagen Passat GTE

At biennial event, Volkswagen has brought its environment-friendly sedan the Passat GTE. It is product will be the regular version of the 8th-gen Passat sedan featuring a 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine combined with an electric motor. The Passat GTE not only previews the carmaker’s plug-in hybrid technology but also showcases the new Passat.

The Passat GTE could be sold through the CKD route in the Indian market and will be positioned slightly more premium than the near rivals like Honda Accord hybrid, Hyundai Sonata hybrid and Toyota Camry hybrid.

 
Volkswagen Beetle

In India, the new Volkswagen Beetle was launched last-month priced at Rs. 28.73 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). A total of 4 colours are on offer – Habanero Orange, Oryx White, Tornado Red and Blue Silk. Here it will compete with the likes of the Mini Cooper, Abarth 595 Competizion, Mercedes-Benz A-Class and BMW 1-Series.
