Volkswagen’s BMW 5-Series competitor in the works

As per reports on Auto Bild, Volkswagen is considering positioning a model between the Passat and the flagship Phaeton saloon. Yes, the company might be doing the unthinkable by creating a BMW 5-Series competitor, which makes us think–isn’t that what Audi’s A6 is for?

Volkswagen seems to be uncompromising about expanding its own line-up, even after its luxurious Phaeton failed to sell in the US. Speaking of which, there wasn’t any specification as to whether or not the US could see this model. That said, there could be a chance this model could be unique to the German market, much like the first generation Phaeton was.

The new competitor gets its backbone from the next-gen Audi A6 or even from the next-gen US-spec Passat. Engine options could include four- and six-cylinder petrol and diesel units while a 4Motion all-wheel drive system could also be made available.
