UML, the result of joint venture between the American organization UM Motorcycles and India’s Lohia Auto Industries, has just affirmed that it will launch a 400cc cruiser bike for the Indian market by June-2015. This bike will get disc brakes along with ABS, a feature which is slowly gaining importance in the India 2-wheeler arena.
The new upcoming 400cc cruiser motorcycle is expected to be priced below Rs 2 lakh.
The cruiser bicycle for the India has been developed specifically for us. A couple of models from the company will see an initial launch with a new model getting added to its portfolio at regular intervals. The 400cc motor will likewise be sent out to its overseas facilities too. Be that as it may, India will gradually be developed as a center point to make higher-capacity motors by the company. The company has also confirmed that it does not plan to go past the 500cc scope of cruisers in India.
UML additionally has spoken about its arrangement to open dealerships in the western and southern locales in India. It plans on having 75 dealerships in over 50 urban cities in the country by July 2015 which would set the tone for the bikes to get rolling.
The JV will result in an investment worth Rs 120 crore getting incested over a period of time. Until further news regarding the owned facility, UML will be making use of Lohia Auto’s current office Kashipur, Uttarakhand for operations. The plant has an installed yearly limit of 1,00,000 units. The motorcycle segment in the country is dominated by established players and a new player like UML might find it difficult to take on the rest.
