South India based two-wheeler manufacturer, TVS Motors today launched their new automatic transmission equipped 110cc scooter, called the ‘Jupiter’, the new scooter will directly compete against the likes of Honda Activa and Hero Maestro. The Jupiter becomes the fourth scooter in TVS scooter line-up that already includes TVS Wego, Scooty Pep Plus and Streak models.
In June-2013, the first test mule of the scooter was spotted in Bangalore wearing camouflage, the name of the new TVS scooter comes from the Jupiter planet which is the largest in our solar system. TVS claims the Jupiter to be a male specific scooter, while shall attract both the male as well as female riders. Jupiter is based on companies Wego, however, the scooter has got more of everything – power, mileage and comfort.
Under the skin, the Jupiter comes with the same tried and tested 110cc engine which does duty on the Wego, which generates maximum power of 8 Bhp @ 7500 rpm with maximum torque of 8 Nm @ 5500 rpm and has a V-matic transmission. The scooter gets viscous paper filter and electric start is standard. One can kick start while sitting. TVS claims that Jupiter comes with a turning radius of 1910mm which is the least in class.
The TVS Jupiter is claimed to be the fastest and most frugal offering in the segment, it sprints 0-60 Kmph in 7.2 seconds, while the fuel efficiency is a claimed 62 kmpl. The Jupiter gets a segment first pass light switch, low-fuel warning light and patented ‘Econometer’, to help riders extract the best fuel efficiency from their scooter. Other unique features include gas-charged rear shock absorber, easy center stand, LED tail-lamps and twin city lamps.
The company also claims the TVS Jupiter has the largest leg space in its segment that can carry an LPG cylinder in horizontal position on the footboard! (Promoting carriage of dangerous LPG cylinders 🙁 ). Other features include retractable front and under-seat bag hooks, a spacious 17-litre under seat storage area (enough for a full face helmet) and under-seat mobile charging point. The Jupiter comes with a fuel-filler located at the rear of the scooter, ensuring you don’t have to get off and hold the seat-up when tanking up at a petrol station. The Jupiter comes with a fuel-tank capacity of 5.3-litres.
The stylish new scooter from TVS is available in 4 new exciting colors of Pristine White, Midnight Black, Titanium Grey and Volcano Red. Smart matte-finished 12-inch” black rims with tubeless tyres round-off the package, although for now Jupiter only comes with drum brake option. The scooter will first be launched across North India at Rs 44,200, (ex-showroom, Delhi), and reaches South India this November, after the monsoons.
