Folks at xBHP have provided us with more photos of the upcoming TVS Akula 310, where the prototype seen here loses some of its camouflage to reveal a bit more of its styling.
As you probably know by now, the Akula 310 is built in collaboration with BMW Motorrad, which is preparing its own range of motorcycle for India that includes BMW G310R and G310GS adventure-tourer. From this prototype’s overall silhouette, it is evident that TVS intends on keep most of the Akula concept’s design on the production-ready variant.
The bulbous fairing makes the Akula 310 almost look-like a 500-600 cc sports motorcycle. The large fuel tank and tall windscreen are visible apart from the raised clip-on and low-placed front headlamps further adds a big bike appeal. Also note that the distance between the fairing and front mudguard appears to be too less. The G310R-like exhaust canister is likely to make it on the production-spec model.
Noteworthy features on-board include a petal disc brakes, USD front fork, projector lamps, LED DRLs, multi-adjustable clip-on handlebar, split seats, rear monoshock, LED taillights, and a fully-digital instrument cluster. A vertically mounted LCD instrumentation panel is completely new, and is not the same unit which is installed on the BMW G310R.
The 310 cc single cylinder, liquid-cooled engine is plonked into the Akula’s trellis frame is based on the BMW G310R’s motor, where it is rated at 34 bhp and 21 Nm mated to a 6 speed manual transmission. Suspension, brakes and wheels are also shared (albeit with minor tweaks) with the Indo-German street fighter, also due in India before April-2017.
At its price point, the Akula 310 will compete with the KTM RC 200, Honda CBR250R, Mahindra Mojo and Bajaj Dominar 400. While its head-to-head competitors include the Yamaha R3, KTM RC 390 and Kawasaki Ninja 300.
