Diesel Version of the 2011 Toyota Etios Sedan and the 2011 Toyota Etios Liva Hatchback will have to stomach some bad news as Toyota have officially stated that the diesel engined variants of these cars will be delayed until 2012. Previously, we reported that Toyota could possibly launch the Etios Sedan Diesel at the end of 2011.
However, this no longer holds good as Sandeep Singh, Deputy Managing Director, Toyota Kirloskar Motor India had this to say about the Diesel engined variants of the Etios Sedan and the yet-to-be-launched Liva Hatchback.
We were earlier looking at an end-of-the-year launch for the diesel variants of Etios and Liva, but now it may only be launched in the first half of next year. The demand for the sedan has exceeded our targets and we are trying our best to reduce the waiting period.
As Mr Singh reiterates, it appears that the huge demand and backlog for the Etios Sedan has slowed things down at Toyota Kirloskar India prompting them to delay the diesel engined variants. For now, the competition can breathe easy and prospective Etios Diesel buyers may choose to wait for a while longer or look at other options like the best selling Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire or the Tata Indigo Manza.
