Tata Motors has confirmed Zica as the name of its upcoming small hatchback. The Indica replacement – to be unveiled on December 1, 2015 – will be the first all-new product from the company, after its transformation.
The Zica is based on the XO platform, and will spawn a compact sedan in third quarter of 2016. This is the same platform that now underpins the Indica and Indigo eCS, however, the new XO platform has been rigorously modified for better stability and strength. The Zica adopts an all-new Tata design philosophy that looks modern, young and stylish, going by the teaser images.
A total of two engines will be on offer – a detuned 1.2-litre 3-cylinder Revotron petrol engine and an all-new 1.05-litre 3-cylinder common rail diesel engine. Paired to the engine is a choice between a 5-speed manual gearbox or an automated manual transmission (AMT), LPG and CNG is also likely to be available. It will compete with the likes of Chevrolet Beat, Hyundai i10, Maruti Celerio and Maruti WagonR.
Tata Zica hatchback is scheduled to launch in India in the second week of January-2016, and could be priced from Rs 3.6 lakh onwards.
