Tata Nexon launched from Rs. 5.85 lakh, Rs. 1.36 lakh cheaper than Ford EcoSport

A lot of Tata Motors fans were waiting for this occasion from last couple of years, here it is finally. The company today officially launched the Nexon compact SUV at prices starting at Rs. 5.85 lakh for the base petrol trim and Rs. 6.85 lakh for the base diesel trim, that’s Rs. 1.36 lakh for the petrol and Rs. 1.06 lakh for the diesel cheaper than EcoSport (Ex-Delhi).

The Nexon is the first sub-compact SUV from Tata Motors. It is the 4th product to follow the ‘Impact Design’ philosophy, and final product based on Tata Motors’ tried-and-tested ‘X1’ platform. It brings together global and contemporary design with best-in-class technology and features for the ones who would like to express themselves with a unique style of their own. Overall, the Nexon has a youthful design.

The compact SUV comes equipped with projector headlamps with integrated LED DRLs, ivory coloured accents featured across the body, dual tone paintjob, alloy wheels, three tone dashboard, free standing Harman sourced 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto (Apple CarPlay will be introduced later) and eight speakers, central console with a tambour door mechanism, automatic climate control, air vents & power outlet for the second row and a reverse parking camera with sensors.

As far as safety is concerned, the Nexon will come equipped with dual front airbags, ABS and corner stability control as standard. A few other highlights include ISOFIX seats, brake assist and adjustable headrests at the front and rear. It is available in five colour options – Moroccan Blue, Vermont Red, Seattle Silver, Glasgow Grey and Calgary White. The dual-tone roof is made available only in the Vermont Red and Moroccan Blue colour. Also, the Calgary White paint shade gets Sonic Silver painted highlights in place of Ivory White.

The Nexon will be available with a choice of 1 petrol and 1 diesel engines – a 110 BHP/ 170 Nm 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine and a 110 BHP/ 260 Nm 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel mill. Both the engines are mated to a 6-speed manual transmission while an AMT with both the engines will be offered next-year onwards. Both powertrain options come with 3 Multi-Drive Modes: Eco, City & Sport.

Available in both Diesel and Petrol guise, the Nexon’s head-to-head competitor are the Ford EcoSport and the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. The Nexon is the most competitively priced SUV in this segment, with class-leading features. Official bookings for the Nexon began on September 11th against an amount of Rs. 11,000. Starting today, the Tata Nexon will be on-sale, across 650 Tata Motors authorized sales outlets in India.

Dual-tone variants cost Rs. 15,000 more than the regular car.
