Tata Motors is likely to launch Nano CNG and diesel variants in 2013

Tata Nano CNG

Recently, Tata Motors made some noise about the launch CNG and diesel variants of the Nano in India. This was confirmed by the company’s managing director, Karl Slym. He said that the CNG variant would be launched by mid-2013 but added that the diesel variant will materialise a bit later. So we are expecting the Nano Diesel to be launched by end-2013.

Last-month, the company has managed to sell around 4004 units of the Nano as compared to 3868 units in the corresponding period last-year leading to an increase of four per cent. Despite the growth, the company has admitted that it has been behind on its plans.  However, it is optimistic that the Nano will find success in rural and urban areas.

At present only the petrol powered Nano is on-sale, which comes powered by a 623cc, twin cylinder, liquid cooled engine that delivers 38 PS of peak power and 51 Nm of peak torque. Tata Motors claims an ARAI certified mileage figure of 25.4 Kmpl, making it the most fuel efficient petrol car in the country. So both the upcoming variants of Nano the CNG and diesel variants is expected to be even more cheaper to run as they are anticipated to deliver higher mileage than the petrol powered Nano, along with the lower prices of diesel and CNG when compared to petrol.
