The Tata Bolt has made its market debut in India, joining its compact sedan sibling in the Kingdom. This premium hatchback, which shares a platform with the Vista, was first seen at 2014 Indian Auto Expo held at New Delhi, where it directly challenges the Maruti Swift. Its compact sedan sibling, the Zest was launched in August-2014.
The Bolt is based on the Tata Vista’s platform.
The Bolt was launched earlier today at the event in Mumbai. It is available in 8 variants, four trims in Petrol – XE, XM, XMS and XT and four trims in Diesel – XE, XM, XMS and XT. Available in a 5 exciting colours – Venetian Red, Pristine White, Platinum Silver, Sky Grey and Dune Beige. The prices for Tata Bolt are higher than the speculated listed, which we posted couple of days back.
The top-spec XT diesel and petrol variants get dual airbags, ABS with EBD, climate control, rear parking sensors, all four power windows, electrically adjustable OVRMs, projector head lamps and a two-din music system with Bluetooth+AUX+iPOD compatibility and six speakers.
The all-black cabin is extremely appealing and comes well loaded on features.
The Tata Bolt is available with both a petrol and diesel engine. The former is the 1.2-litre Revotron mill that produces 90bhp of power and 140Nm of torque. It features three driving modes – Sport, City and Eco that modulate the ECU maps for performance and efficiency.
The diesel variant on the other side bestows 1.3-litre Quadrajet diesel engine, borrowed from Fiat, this engine generates the power of 75 bhp and torque of 190 Nm. We can expect the diesel AMT to arrive at a later date, but at the time of the launch only the 5-speed manual gearbox is being offered on both the petrol and diesel models.
Altogether, the Bolt is a much better package than its rivals.
The Tata Bolt rivals the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Volkswagen Polo and the Fiat Punto Evo. Bookings for hatchback began on December 22 and we expect that the first few owners will get their machines by the end of next week.
