Maruti Suzuki are desperately looking to enter the mid-size SUV segment in India for quite some time now. The S-Cross, launched in 2015, hasn’t been able to catch the attention of premium SUV buyers, though it has been able to hold its own. The answer for this question may be the Suzuki Vitara sold abroad.
We have spotted the Suzuki Vitara undergoing testing recently. The car, codenamed the G464, is slated to be a test mule having no camouflage. Suzuki sells the Vitara in markets such as the United Kingdom and Australia.
The Vitara is available in both petrol and diesel engine options. As far as the petrol engine is concerned, it will be a 1.4-litre turbocharged motor giving 140 BHP of power and 230 Nm of torque. On the other hand, the diesel engine will be a 1.6-litre turbocharged mill giving 120 BHP of power and 320 Nm of torque.
Both these engines will come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Meanwhile, the Suzuki Vitara features a monocoque body and is of a front wheel drive layout. It will depend on whether Maruti Suzuki decides to launch it here, when it comes its driver layout.
We can expect prices for the Vitara to start from Rs. 10 lakh and go all the way to Rs.20 lakh for the top trims. It will be rivalling the likes of the Jeep Compass, Hyundai Creta and the upcoming Tata Harrier. Suzuki have not yet confirmed the Vitara for the Indian market, but given the immense popularity of mid-size SUV’s here, expect it to happen sometime soon.
