Suzuki Motorcycle India Limited (SMIL), launched the 250 cc Suzuki Inazuma on January this year at a price tag of INR 3.10 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). Since its launch, Suzuki’s Inazuma 250 failed to obtain the decent sales due to heavy pricing. In order to compensate this, Suzuki later also announced a huge discount of 1 lakh bringing down the vehicle price to INR 2 lakhs.
Suzuki Inazuma is brought in as CKD and assembled at Suzuki’s Gurgaon facility.
This discount offered by Suzuki perhaps is the maximum price drop seen after launch in the Indian market. Although after offering huge discount, Suzuki was not able to obtain the required decent sales for which now it has come to a conclusion of actually discontinuing Inazuma 250 from its current line up in the Indian market. The official discontinuation of the bike will be applicable from March-2015.
The main reasons for Inazuma’s failure is the hefty pricing at the time of launch, more powerful and cheaper alternatives from its rivals such as KTM and Kawasaki. For the people who are still interested to buy Inazuma 250 which is in fact suitable for long and comfortable rides, equipped with smoother two cylinder engine and touring capability then perhaps it’s the best time to get the hands on quarter liter motorcycle before Inazuma 250 is officially discontinued from the Indian market.
