Suzuki India planning to launch the Gixxer 250 by June 2019

Suzuki has enjoyed tremendous success from the Gixxer nameplate in India. Consisting of the Gixxer and the Gixxer SF, these are being updated regularly and are also selling in good numbers. Now, the Japanese bike manufacturer will add a new model to the Gixxer series soon.

The upcoming Suzuki Gixxer 250 could draw styling cues from the 2019 Suzuki GSX-S750Z (pictured).

That will be the Gixxer 250, scheduled for launch in June 2019. The Gixxer 250 will be based on Suzuki’s GSX-250R sold in various international markets. This would mean that the Gixxer 250 will carry forward a similar design theme, but having some minor changes.

The GSX-250R is powered by a 248cc, oil-cooled engine. This engine produces 24.7 bhp of power and 23.3 Nm of torque, coming mated to a 6-speed gearbox. It will be interesting to see whether Suzuki will bring this engine to India or not.

The Gixxer 250 will compete against the Yamaha Fazer 25, Bajaj Pulsar RS200 and the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V.

Reports suggest that Suzuki are developing a sub-300cc engine for India. This could also lead to this engine featuring in the motorcycle than the internationally used one. Suzuki will introduce a much more improved version of the ABS system on the motorcycle.

The Gixxer 250 will be heavily localised in order to give it a competitive edge over its rivals in the pricing department. When launched, the Gixxer 250 will rival the likes of the Yamaha FZ-25, TVS Apache RTR 200 4V, Bajaj Pulsar NS200 and the upcoming KTM Duke 200. The Gixxer 250 will enter a hugely competitive 150-300cc segment where almost all of the big names are represented.
