Suzuki Motorcycles India are looking to enter the affordable sports bike segment by launching a 250cc motorcycle soon. It is not known whether the bike would be given the Gixxer nameplate or not, but we can expect it to be called the ‘Gixxer 250’. The bike will go on floors by sometime next-year.
On the other hand, there is also a possibility of Suzuki launching the 250cc in two versions namely a naked one and a faired one. In all possibilities, both will be launched simultaneously with the 2019 Suzuki Gixxer, which is undergoing development as of now. Features include front and rear disc brakes, ABS, LED headlamps and tail-lamps, a high range fuel tank and so on.
Engine-wise, the motorcycle will employ a 250cc, single-cylinder, oil-cooled engine. This engine is expected to give 25 BHP of power and close to 35 Nm of torque, which at the moment is being developed by Suzuki. It will come mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.
Given Suzuki’s recent track record of affordable pricing, we can expect the Gixxer 250 to also be given this treatment. It will rival the likes of the Yamaha FZ-25, TVS Apache RTR 200 4V and the Bajaj Pulsar NS200. We can expect it to be priced reasonably at around Rs. 1.40 lakh to Rs. 1.50 lakh (ex-showroom).
