Japanese car maker, Suzuki has unveiled its new Suzuki Authentics Concept sedan at the recently held 2013 Shanghai Auto Show in China. Although, Suzuki usually concentrates on the small cars, it has always tried to introduce some larger cars in the market which neither till date has reached a decent sale worldwide. The production version of the Suzuki Authentics is not far away, it would be converted into a C-segment sedan and then would hit the Chinese market by the end of 2014.

This new Suzuki Authentic concept would inherit styling from the Kizashi sedan and S-Cross concept which was showcased at the Paris Motor Show in 2012. The model expresses “Sporty x Elegant” with its long wheelbase and an unconstrained form with its overall height kept low, as well as its strong character line which gives a wind-cutting image along with a rich and fine curved surface. This vehicle, in the C segment sedan class is expected to be a crowd puller when it makes its way into Chinese markets.

Suzuki still hasn’t released further details on the car the engine options available, but is expected to inherit the engines from Kizashi with slight enhancement in the interiors and also increase in the legroom and boot space as this is particularly in demand in Chinese markets. The car would also have longer wheel bases which in turn would provide a luxurious class of comfort. This car is expected to be priced effectively since all the cars of Maruti Suzuki priced above the 10 lakh range has not achieved decent sales till date.

The company said that the production model based on the Authentics will be manufactured and distributed by Chongquing Changan Suzuki Automobile Co. joint venture in China until the end of 2014. For the Chinese car market, Suzuki plans to expand its market share by selling the production-spec Authentics along with the new SX4 crossover. If launched in India, Suzuki Authentics could venture into the entry level D-segment, as a replacement for Kizashi.

The last Suzuki luxury sedan we ever got, the Kizashi, was by all means a rather handsome vehicle. It’s a shame it just didn’t get the attention it deserved, dialing-up some rather surprising driving dynamics, proper build quality, and an overall pleasing package.
