Vashi RTO officials seize ‘stretched’ Mahindra Scorpio’s

Vashi RTO officials have seized two models of the Mahindra Scorpio that were illegally modified to the length of a limousine.


RTO officials seized the vehicle’s, saying that modifying the dimensions of the car is a violation as per the Motor Vehicles Act. These Gujarat-registered limousines were owned by NWT Limo International located in Anand, Gujarat and seized in Vashi and Andheri. These limousines were hired for a function in Mumbai at a sum of Rs.10,000 per hour.

Design-wise, both the models were quite different. One of the models featured Hummer-like front-fascia while the other seized cars feature Cadillac Escalade-inspired grille with the Wagon-R headlamps. On the inside, the seized cars feature a bar, a TV and LED lighting. The extended wheelbase of the vehicle might affect the safety and the integrity.


Speaking to Times of India, Mr. Anandram Wagle, Inspector, Vashi RTO said –

“The vehicles were extended by 1.6 meters and the chassis altered at a cost of around Rs. 25 – 30 lakh per vehicle. The limo’s driver said that many agencies are operating in Gujarat charge Rs. 10,000 per hour for such vehicles. The amenities include a sitting deck, bar, 31-inch TV and LED lights. As per the documents, these are 2011 and 2012 models of Scorpio. The visiting cards that we have found state that the services by the company are provided all over India and the USA. They were on offer for airport transfers and for functions like weddings.”

“He added, If the original manufacturer has not certified the modification, then such alterations are illegal. RTO officials said that the owner will be served a notice and failure to provide relevant documents may result in consigning the vehicle to scrap.”
