SsangYong’s first compact global SUV Tivoli launched in Korea, can come to India

Ssangyong Motor, a part of the Mahindra Group, recently announced the launch of its eagerly awaited ‘Tivoli compact SUV model in Seoul, South Korea. The Tivoli offers innovative styling and remarkable product competitiveness to customers and was launched at the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP). The new SUV was developed over a period of four years, boasts trend setting style and best in class product competitiveness.

The Tivoli which is SsangYong’s first compact SUV model is based on SsangYong’s “Nature-born 3Motion” design philosophy. SsangYong will offer dual-tone body and roof options, while the SUV will be available with black, beige, and red interior colours as well. Top-end variant is equipped as standard with a configurable Smart Steer electric power steering system, a 7-inch touchscreen media system with a 6-speaker audio system, automatic air con, parking sensors and smart key entry.

The Tivoli was launched with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder petrol engine, which took three years to develop. This engine produces 126 hp/157 Nm of torque, is mated to either a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard or an Aisin 6-speed automatic which sends power to the front wheels. The company claims 12.3 kmpl for the manual and 12 kmpl for the automatic. A diesel engine and an all-wheel drive system is expected to debut in Europe.

Competitively priced at Korean Won: 16.3 million (approximately Rs. 9.31 lacs) for the TX (M/T) version; 17.9 million (approximately Rs. 10.22 lac) for the TX (A/T) version; 19.9 million (approximately Rs. 11.36 lacs) for the VX version and 22.2-23.7 million (approximately Rs. 12.68 lacs – Rs. 13.53 lacs) for the LX version, the Tivoli is all set to be a game changer in its segment.

BharathAutos feels Mahindra could bring the Ssangyong Tivoli to India, but if it is brought here in its current form, it will compete with models like the upcoming Hyundai ix25 and Nissan Terrano. At the moment it is just a speculation no official statement made on launching the Ssangyong Tivoli in India.
